Lord's Prayer Reflection - Day 6

Deliver Us

As we pray the Lord’s Prayer today, we can ask ourselves, “how does God deliver us from evil?” We are trying to consider what it means to follow Jesus, what it means to de a disciple of Jesus. Does that mean that we won’t face temptation? Does that mean we won’t face the evil one?

The more we’re “being with” and “becoming like” Jesus, I think the more we’ll recognize the temptations and evil around us. But, even more, the more we’re spending time with Jesus, the more we’ll see that He faced temptation and evil as well. He even asked himself to be delivered from evil the night before he went to the cross.

Then, when we “do as” Jesus did, more opportunities we’ll have to be tempted to stop, to take the easier way, to do the thing that looks like it is more fun. But also, the way we can “do as” Jesus did, is to be the people in each other’s lives who help recognize the temptations our brothers and sisters are facing. The more we follow Jesus in our actions, the more he’ll be able to use us to deliver those oppressed by evil.
